MAX 3000A Family: Low-Cost CPLDs

MAX 3000A Cost-Optimized CPLDs
Altera's 3.3-V MAX® 3000A devices are based on the Altera® MAX architecture and are cost-optimized for high-volume applications. Manufactured on an advanced 0.30-µm CMOS process, the electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM)-based MAX 3000A family provides instant-on capability and offers densities from 32 to 512 macrocells. MAX 3000A devices support in-system programmability (ISP) and can be easily reconfigured in the field. Each MAX 3000A macrocell is individually configurable for either sequential or combinatorial logic operation.
Device Options
Altera's MAX 3000A programmable logic devices (PLDs) are the ideal non-volatile, instant-on CPLDs for high-volume, cost-sensitive applications. The MAX 3000A CPLDs offer a range from 32 to 512 macrocells, a 3.3-V logic core, and support commonly used features and packages.
MAX 3000A devices are available in both commercial and industrial grades and are offered in popular packages such as thin quad flat pack (TQFP) and 1.0-mm pitch ball-grid array (BGA), in addition to traditional plastic J-lead chip carrier (PLCC) and plastic quad flat pack (PQFP) packages. MAX 3000A devices give designers the needed flexibility to use different board layouts for their designs.
I/O Voltage
Altera's MultiVolt™ interface allows designers to integrate MAX 3000A designs at 2.5-, 3.3-, and 5.0-V logic levels seamlessly. From industrial applications that traditionally call for 5.0-V I/O signals to consumer applications that require low-voltage standards such as 2.5 V, MAX 3000A devices offer robust I/O voltage options. Table 1 shows the MAX 3000A device input and output voltage support.

Silicon Features
MAX 3000A devices are instant-on and non-volatile, and offer global clocking, in-system programmability, IEEE-1532 standard compliance, and open-drain output. Combined with many other silicon features, MAX 3000A devices address a broad range of system design requirements.
Easy-to-Use Design Software
MAX devices are supported by the easy-to-use Quartus® II Web Edition and MAX+PLUS® II BASELINE design software Both platforms provide synthesis, place-and-route, design verification, and device programming, and can be downloaded at no cost from the Altera web site. The complimentary development tools available for designing with MAX devices help minimize the total development cost of end-user systems.
Multitude of Applications
MAX 3000A CPLDs can be found in communication, computer, consumer, automotive, industrial, and many other end systems. Due to their low cost and flexibility, MAX 3000A devices reduce system cost by replacing other, more expensive standard silicon devices. With CPLDs, system upgrades are easy and extend the shelf life of end products that leverage the reprogrammability of MAX 3000A CPLDs
