Trademark and Product Name Usage Guidelines

Trademarks and Brands

Altera's trademarks and brands are Altera’s intellectual property and are important and valuable assets of the corporation. Trademarks must be used properly. Follow these for using Altera's trademarks and brands properly in all communications, documents, and electronic messages.

For Third Parties Using Altera's Trademarks and Logos;

You may refer to Altera’s products and services by their associated Altera trademarks and service marks, so long as such references (a) are truthful, fair, and not misleading, and (b) comply with these guidelines, which may be modified by Altera from time to time in Altera’s sole discretion.

The “golden rules’ for proper trademark use are:

  • Use the appropriate trademark symbol and trademark acknowledgement of Altera's ownership of the marks and/or logos in question.
  • Do not incorporate Altera trademarks or logos into your own product names, service names, trademarks, logos, or company names, and do not adopt marks or logos that are confusingly like Altera's marks and logos (this applies to 3rd parties – licensees)
  • If you are a LICENSEE of an Altera trademark or logo, your license agreement that you signed with Altera may have special trademark and logo usage guidelines different than the Guidelines set forth here. If so, please follow the special guidelines provided to you pursuant to your license agreement

Trademark Acknowledgments

  • Properly footnote and acknowledge trademark ownership, preferably identifying Altera marks as being owned by Altera Corporation, e.g., ‘a’ logo is a trademark of Altera Corporation.
  • Note: Trademarks and logos licensed by Altera to you may have specific contractual requirements or other restrictions. Refer to your contract or license for specific requirements.

The comprehensive trademark acknowledgement line when referencing all of Altera trademarks is:

Altera, the Altera logo, the ‘a’ logo, Agilex, Arria, Cyclone, eASIC, and easicopy, Hyperflex, MAX, Nios, Quartus, Stratix, are trademarks of Altera Corporation or its parent corporation.

If just referencing a subset of Altera Marks: [insert mark(s)] is/are trademark(s) of Altera Corporation or its parent corporation.

Proper Use of Trademarks and Approved Nouns

Trademarks should be used as an adjective and not as a noun. This means that an appropriate and approved noun must accompany the trademark. The appropriate trademark symbol should also be included in the first prominent use of the mark in the document along with the above referenced acknowledged line.
