Altera’s MAX IIZ CPLDs Receive Worldwide Recognition

New Zero-Power CPLDs Designed Specifically to Address the Power, Package and Price Constraints of the Portable Applications Market

San Jose, Calif., April 14, 2008—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced its new zero-power MAX® IIZ CPLD received the 2008 Editor’s Choice Award by Portable Design magazine in the programmable logic category and the Product of the Year Award from Electronic Products China.

Presented annually, the Portable Design Editor’s Choice Award recognizes innovative electronic components that make possible the design of leading-edge portable products. The Electronic Products China Product of the Year Award is given to products that show significant progress in technology, innovative design or offer distinct price performance improvements compared to competing devices. Offering the highest density and I/O count in packages as small as 5 x 5 mm compared to macrocell-based CPLDs, MAX IIZ devices allow designers to meet changing functional requirements and lower power while saving board space. The MAX IIZ devices deliver flexibility, faster time to market and board-level integration to handsets and other portable applications.

“Every year Portable Design singles out for recognition those new products that we consider to be the most innovative, choosing from among the thousands of product releases that cross our desks,” said John Donovan, Portable Design’s editor-in-chief. “These products are the underlying technology that puts the ‘cool’ in cell phones, MP3 players and a wide range of consumer devices.”

“MAX IIZ devices break through the power, space and cost limitations of traditional macrocell-based CPLDs by combining non-volatility and instant-on performance with an innovative look-up table logic structure, meeting the requirements of smart phones, GPS and other portable applications,” said Karen Cui, editor of Electronic Products China. “These innovative features make it the only programmable logic device to win our Product of the Year.”

“With MAX IIZ CPLDs, we are delivering a solution that enables designers of portable applications to quickly differentiate their products without increasing power or form factor,” said Danny Biran, senior vice president of product and corporate marketing at Altera. “We are proud of these awards and the industry recognition for delivering innovative solutions to the portable applications market.”

About MAX IIZ CPLDs

MAX IIZ devices are available in densities of 240 and 570 logic elements (LEs), and in ultra-small MBGA packages with up to 160 I/Os. This increased logic density and greater I/O count allow greater integration of existing functions from other devices, substantially reducing board space and power consumption while lowering overall system costs. The advanced system features of MAX IIZ CPLDs—such as user flash memory, an internal oscillator, cost optimization, greater density, smaller packages and lower power consumption—far surpass those of all traditional macrocell-based CPLDs.
